On Memorial day weekend from Friday night to Monday noon, up to 100 Holy Trinity people spend the time in community at Silver Falls State Park in the Youth Camp.

Notices are put in the bulletin to notify everyone to sign up and to attend the mandatory planning meeting. The coordinator for the event rotates each year.

The 2008 campout was a blazing success. This is purported to be the 37th year for the Holy Trinity campout. Overnight campers numbered about 109 and day visitors added another dozen or so.

The weather was perfect –but then its always perfect. We had sun and we had drizzle. We had mist and we had mosquitoes. What more could one ask for?

Games of all kinds filled the weekend. The children played in the stream and got soaked. They played volleyball, tether ball and commando. They spent time DS en mass. We had fire tenders, and teen clumps. Poker and chutes and ladders. We had a spreading epidemic of rhythmic clapping that threatened to use up every plastic cup in camp. There were wonderful hikes to waterfalls, tie dye crafts worthy of the farmers market and a bonfire with sumores and mosquitoes where everyone learned to sing.

We had conflict and we had reconciliation. We had Mass in God’s cathedral.

The food was everything from good to sublime. David Hammond and Jeff Zeigler got a round of applause for their smoked turkeys and sausage addition to the baked potato bar. We had so much lasagna left over that many campers took it home and ate for the week.

We celebrated first communions, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries. Graduating senior Jeff Quinn, Jr. was roasted by his dad, who had a hard time not crying. The TV show jeopardy was brought live to our stage by contestant Kyle Neblett. We welcomed new families to our party. We bid farewell to family members who are moving away.

We had a grand round of bingo to occupy the children while the older ones cleaned up the camp for the ranger’s inspection. We ended the party, like always, with paper plate awards and the passing on of the spaghetti stirrer/paddle to the new coordinators for 2009 – the Hammond family.
