Greetings from Fr. Dave:
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Blessings to each of you and to all our deceased loved ones who have died. At all of our masses this weekend, we will be taking time to honor those who have died. Special thanks to our Veterans who are helping us with the presentation of the American Flag in support of those who have died in service to our country. One of our commonly used Eucharistic Acclamations proclaims: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. Through baptism, we all share in the hope and promise that life goes on beyond death. “May all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
Our school year is winding down, though, with all the end of year activities, it seems to be winding up. I announced earlier this month that we are in the process of hiring a new principal for our school. Our search committee has worked with the faculty and parents in putting together a list of qualities needed in our next principal. We are interviewing our first candidate this coming week. I can assure all of you that we are walking the process through very carefully. Sr. Betty Larson, the Assistant School Superintendent is supporting us all along the way. Change is always unsettling, but also brings about new opportunities. Our continued gratitude goes to Diane Cronin for her 10 years of service to our school. She too is in for major change as she assumes the role of principal at Cathedral School. May God bless you Diane—and continue to bless and guide our search for our new principal here.
I’ll be joining our Parish Campout crew this weekend for a Sunday afternoon mass at 4:30pm up at Silver Creek Falls. We have a full turnout for the Family Campout once again this year and the schedule in place for the weekend looks like lots of fun! Anyone wishing to join the campers for mass and dinner is most welcome.
I celebrate my 25th anniversary of ordination on May 27th. At all the masses next weekend I will be talking a bit about my experiences over the years and will be doing a renewal of priestly vows. I am so very grateful for the opportunity to serve God in this way, and am grateful to be your pastor now! Thanks for your continued prayers for me and for all priests. Following the 11:15 mass we will have a simple reception as well.
This week we celebrated the baptism of Reece Justice and the marriage of Bradley Diebold and Leigh Braman. Congratulations!
Funeral Services were held this week for Caitlin Calkins, may her soul rest in peace.
