          Caring Ministry Workshop 

Want to learn to care for people who are grieving and reach out to others in a distinctively Christian way? On Saturday, April 19, 2008 Holy Trinity Parish will host a Stephen Series Caring Ministry Workshop from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. The half-day workshop is designed both to enhance participants’ care giving skills and to help congregations explore ways to expand their caring ministry. Registration begins at 8:00, and refreshments will be served.

One reason we’re so excited to help other congregations learn about Stephen Ministry is that it is making a significant difference in the life of our own congregation. Since we began Stephen Ministry in 1985, over 50 laypeople have gone through 50 hours of training in order to provide quality one-to-one Christian care to hurting people. If you think you might be interested in being a Stephen Minister, attending the workshop is a great way to learn more.

Members of Holy Trinity are invited to attend the workshop free of charge. However, it is still important to pre-register so that we can have plenty of materials on the day of the workshop. Mission: Provide confidential and compassionate, one-to-one caring support to any individual going through difficult times and emotional crises.

Stephen Ministers support personal crises including hospitalization, recent job change or loss, retirement, terminal illness, pregnancy, death of a loved one and numerous situations where someone is in spiritual or emotional pain. Stephen Ministers are not professional counselors, but have been specially educated and trained according to the guidelines of the international, ecumenical organization of the same name. Holy Trinity is one of 60 churches in the greater Portland area providing Stephen Ministers.
