Al's Outreach Outtakes

A couple of weeks ago we had our monthly health services event. This one was bigger (and better) than any of the preceding events in that we had more health providers offer their services than before. While some were busier than others, all were glad they had come.

Medical Teams International provides the Emergency Dental van and have been partnering with us for two years. We had more people sign up for their services than ever before with fifteen people asking to be seen. We kept the volunteer dentist and assistants busy well past 1:00pm! With the next Dental Van coming October 4th, there are already four people signed up. A very popular service!

A representative from Virginia Garcia Medical Clinic was present to help people enroll in the Oregon Health Plan. While only one person was able to actually enroll, multiple others received guidance and had many questions answered. I suspect several will return next month.

A new group for us was the Lions Club. They provided a variety of services including vision and glaucoma screening as well as glucose testing. When I asked one of the Lions Club representatives what they thought of the event they replied “I have done many of these within the last few months; this is by far the best!” They saw nineteen people and are looking forward to their next visit to Holy Trinity which is scheduled for November 1st.

All-in-all this was a great event. Not only were the providers able to help many people, but having multiple providers together at the same time allowed for people to utilize more than one service with just one trip; exactly what is needed. There were lots of smiles on peoples faces, including those of the incredible volunteers who made this happen. Thanks to all of you who shared your time to make this a meaningful day for so many.
