Each week brings a different opportunity for ways our Outreach Ministry can help. Our Food Closet is a constant; serving 110+ families each week and sending out around 100 backpacks to multiple schools. As a result around 1,000 people have something to eat because we are here. A worthy effort indeed! But requests for help come in many other ways as well.
You may recall that Beaverton High School recently had a fire in one of their buildings. Gratefully, no one was injured. While the major damage was isolated to a couple of classrooms, ancillary damage was caused in a room below. Turns out the room below was the “Beaver Den”- a room that contains food, clothes, school supplies and more for students in need. It is a room I have visited many times and one that Holy Trinity has helped in various ways. Each week students and families come to the Beaver Den to take food home for the weekend; basically an on-site version of the back pack program. A couple of days after the fire I was contacted to see if we could provide interim food assistance. The Beaver Den plays a vital role for some and having food available for these families was critical. Because of your on-going generosity, we were able to provide them with what was needed for these families. Within a week the Beaver Den opened in a different location and the community, including Holy Trinity, rallied to provide the requested essentials.
Shortly after helping with the Beaver Den I came to work early one morning and saw a motorhome parked in our lot. I knew that meant someone inside needed something. Sure enough, I no sooner turned the lights on in the Food Closet when there was a knock at the door. I recognized the face as someone we had helped several years ago. He shared with me that as a result of nerve damage in his arm he could no longer continue being a professional painter. He had sold most of his possessions and was now hungry and out of gas. He was headed to Idaho where he had some help lined up and would be OK once his disability started. We provided food and some gas and sent him on his way.
Please pray for him and those who are supported via the Beaver Den. And as always, thank you for
MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
