For almost eight years I have had the privilege of writing these articles. Having the opportunity to share with all of you what is happening within the Outreach Ministry is something I think is important and, usually, something I enjoy. I always appreciate the feedback I receive.
Regularly I ask the Holy Spirit to guide my efforts as it can be challenging at times to find the right words. On occasion, writers-block sets in and I struggle to find a meaningful topic. Coming up with this article was one of those times. And then, as always whenever I surrender, the Holy Spirit says “I’ve got this” and I begin to type.
At daily mass a couple of weeks ago, the first reading was from James 2:14-24, 26. It begins with “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?” As I listened to the reading I began thinking about all that Holy Trinity has done and continues to do through our works. Food Closet, back packs, dental van, Thanksgiving meals, Giving Tree, mobile food kitchen and so many other acts. As I have said many, many times, none of this could be done without your incredible generosity and support. I also know that many of you pray for this ministry and those that we serve. For that I am also grateful for without that we are also dead.
As I was writing this I met with a gentleman who had been an interpreter for the US Army in Afghanistan. He and his family have only been here a few months and are struggling on his janitorial salary. I told him we would help however we can. I don’t know yet what that means, but my faith tells me that the Holy Spirit will guide our efforts and I know that faith without works is dead. Please pray for this family.
