I have mentioned a couple of times that, with the help of the Knights at Holy Trinity we have been able to launch a home delivery service. I am pleased to say that this has, and is, working very well. Deliveries are made on the same three days of the week that we are open for people to come to the Food Closet: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
I knew the need was there, I was just not certain how large it was. The first couple of days it was available three to four families requested delivery. By the end of the first week it was up to eight. For now we will hold at that level, but will soon transition to the longer term plan which is to have Ride Connection provide the delivery service. This is a program being run by the Oregon Food Bank and will grow to include multiple pantries serving multiple counties. I am proud to have Holy Trinity be part of the pilot and the long-term program. None of this could have happened without our Knights saying yes to the request!
The Farm to Family program that we are sponsoring at the Beaverton Foursquare parking lot next door is also going well. It is unfortunately a typical Thursday where we have 700+ boxes distributed within the first hour (we start at 9:00am) and the remaining 200-300 boxes gone by 11:30am. Again, I am so pleased that we can be a part of this effort by bringing together the various resources that are needed to have this type of an impact.
The Knights play a big role in this effort as well by providing traffic control. No crashes or run over toes yet! Nice work Knights! Thanks for all you do!
