Jesus’ rising from the dead changes everything! In my homilies I speak often of how fully Jesus understands the depths of our human condition and the strength he gives us when we invite him into any and everything we face. The Resurrection underlines the crucial fact that not only was Jesus fully human, he was also divine.
Rising from the dead is the proof of that reality. There is a trend in our secularized culture to reduce Jesus to simply being an inspired teacher, a prophet, a miracle worker, a good man. He is surely all of those, and as he said clearly, he and the Father are one. He is divine. He is the Son of God. That is precisely why we call him “Lord” and turn to him as Savior!
The Resurrection of Jesus provides renewed hope to our world. Jesus, the Lamb of God, provides healing and reconciliation in a way that no politics, technology, economy, or latest fad can provide. In this world we have to make peace with the “insufficiency of all things attainable” and the deep restlessness that results.
Surrendering our lives to Jesus, seeking to honor him in all our choices, entering into the friendship he offers us, is the answer! And, you and I are sent into this world as agents of hope: by our words of encouragement, acts of generosity, support in times of need, and by our making the daily choices to live in friendship with Jesus. May the Holy Spirit inspire each of us!
Congratulations to all who received sacraments for the first time at our Easter Vigil this weekend. And, blessings to our children who will be making their First Communion at all Masses in two weeks!
Last week, funeral services were held for Arnie Krenn. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.
