Oh Boy! First Communion. I just did some math and realized this is the 55
th anniversary of my First Communion. Geepers. I have few memories of it, but thanks to my parents’ example (and expectations!) I have faithfully received Communion at least weekly for all of those 55 years.
I know without a doubt that the regular reception of Communion is hugely important if we are to live our lives fully, be equipped to deal with the inevitable ups and downs of life, and be alert to the opportunities given us to be “First Responders of Hope” (
reference to Easter homily).
We all know how important good nutrition is if we are to be physically healthy and mentally alert. Holy Communion is the necessary nutrition we need to be spiritually strong. Jesus gave us this gift knowing well how urgently we need Him in our lives — not just in some kind of an imaginary way, but in a
physical, tangible way. When we receive the host we believe that Jesus is actually present and given to us. That should blow our socks off!
May our children have a wonderful experience of First Communion, may they be faithful to receiving Communion throughout their lives, and may all of us continue to invite Jesus into the center of our lives!
Coming up: International Festival 2019! This coming weekend we have our annual International Festival, beginning with a multi-language rosary prayed at 5:00pm in the church followed by our 5:30pm Vigil Mass. A food extravaganza follows downstairs. Special invitation to anyone new to the parish, as this is a great way to experience the vitality, diversity, and unity of Holy Trinity. Come and enjoy the community, and the God who joins us all together.
The Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal is trying to wrap up for the year. If you have put off making your pledge, I invite you to do it soon so our parish can get credit for meeting our goal and the Archdiocese will have what they need to provide the services beyond the scope of Holy Trinity. Additional pledge
envelopes are available at the Information Desk. Thanks for all who have participated!
Blessings to siblings Grayson, Emmie, Jaden, and Lucas Rupp, who were baptized this weekend!
Congratulations to Christina Nguyen and Kaleb Striplin, who were married here on May 4
th. Blessings to you both, and to all of our married and engaged
couples!
Last week, funeral services were held for Milo Doran. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace.
