Through the Eyes of Jesus — our Fall Homily Series continues, this week exploring death, salvation, and judgment (previous sessions in this series are available on our website under “Bulletins & Homilies”).
 

November is traditionally the month we honor all who have died — beginning with All Saints’ Day, All Souls’ Day, and continuing with Veteran’s Day, and on to the end of our liturgical year with the feast of Christ the King at the end of the month. It is our tradition here to create banners each November with names of those whose funerals we have held here over the past 12 months. And, it is our tradition to have our Book of Remembrance present in the sanctuary from now until Thanksgiving. You are invited to write in names of those who have died and we will be praying for them at all weekend Masses during the month.
 
Here’s the prayer of commendation I use at funerals.  Each time I pray it, I am touched by the tenderness and generosity of God’s love for each and every person.
 

My brother (sister) in faith, I entrust you to God who created you.
May you return to the one who formed you from the dust of this earth.
May Mary, the angels, and all the saints come to meet you as you go forth from this life.
May Christ who was crucified for you bring you freedom and peace.
May Christ, the Son of God, who died for you take you into his Kingdom.
May Christ, the Good Shepherd, give you a place within his flock.
May he forgive your sins and keep you among his people.
May you see your Redeemer face to face and enjoy the sight of God forever.

 

As we have done during past cold and flu seasons, we are discontinuing ministering the Blood of Christ from this weekend forward. The Church has consistently taught that we receive the “full” presence of Jesus by
receiving either the Body of Christ, the Blood of Christ, or both.
 
Next weekend we will have some trial hearing-enhancement gizmos available for those of you that have hearing aids with t-coil loop capability. Stop by the Information Desk to borrow one.
