Well folks, now that school is up and running, I am out of here! I will be leaving for vacation on Monday and be back the last weekend of the month, and will be enjoying my time at my property in Scappoose. As usual, a lot of outdoor physical work is on my agenda.
Please load Fr. Hans and Brett up with gobs of tasks. I don’t want them scheming behind my back. The more free time they have, the more likely that will be. I apologize ahead of time for having to leave them with you while I am away. I’ll try harder next year to get better help!
We have copies of Bishop Robert Barron’s book,
Letter to a Suffering Church, available in the entry of the church this weekend. In it, he addresses very frankly the recent scandals in the church and does a remarkable job of putting it into a bigger context, giving hope for the future.
The book is short, and for those of you who need it to be even shorter, I encourage you to read the fourth chapter, “Why Should We Stay”. We will be doing our Fall homily series on that topic beginning on Sept. 28/29. Thanks to all of you for your faithfulness to our parish and to the Catholic Church. You inspire me every week!
And, this is the weekend for our annual picnic. Come join us after the 11:15am Mass in the cafeteria and playground for a “launch-into-fall” picnic. Huge thanks to our planning crew for their efforts. Beach party, here we come!
Blessings to Theodore Vu, who was baptized this weekend!
