Hello, everyone. A couple of weeks ago, both Fr. Dave and I spoke about the latest clergy sexual abuse revelations. Since then, many of you have come with your questions, observations and concerns. Although things have quieted down a bit for now, at least in the main stream press, I’m sure new stories will continue to emerge as the bishops; the Vatican; concerned priests and laity; and, yes, law enforcement continue to grapple with this awful problem.
One thing we’ve not done to this point as a parish is give all of you a chance to come and ask your questions and offer your comments. We’d like to do that, and so this Wednesday evening (September 12th), Ally and I will be hosting a Listening Session from 6:00-7:30pm in the Fireside Room. We’ll try to answer any questions you may have, but the intent of the meeting isn’t primarily informational. Rather it’s a chance to come together with other concerned parishioners and support each other as we all attempt to carry this. We’ll conclude with some kind of simple prayer for victims of sexual abuse, for the Church, for those attempting to change the culture that allowed these abuses to happen, and for all of us here at Holy Trinity. Come with your questions and comments; one really good way to prepare, if you have the opportunity, would be to (re)read Archbishop Sample’s letter regarding this situation. You can find the link for it front and center on the Archdiocesan website (archdpdx.org).
Going forward, we’ll try to make opportunities available for discussion of any significant developments, most likely through Grow Group. Speaking of which, Grow Group launches once more this fall starting on the last Wednesday of this month (September 26th). Note the new day, time, and location: Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30pm in the Fireside Room. All are welcome as we pursue questions regarding God, faith, Scripture, morality, Catholic Social Teaching, etc. Make your plans to come join us! If last year was any indication, you’ll be in truly excellent company!
