Holidays bring out the best in everyone at Holy Trinity! Along with the families that come through our Food Closet, we work directly with the Portland Veteran's Administration, Union Gospel Mission's LifeChange for Women & Children community, Beaverton Resource Center, Beaverton School District, Department of Health & Services, Family Justice Center, Sexual Assault Resource Center, and Rose Haven to identify families in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In November, we were able to help 151 families with Thanksgiving gift cards and donated to L’Arche Portland and UGM’s Women’s LifeChange Center for their Thanksgiving dinners. We also helped 38 veteran families, and the coordinator contacted me to say that “several veteran families reached out and said the gift card made a huge difference for them for Thanksgiving.”
For Christmas, we helped over two hundred families with gift cards: 150 families at Rose Haven, 20 veteran families, and 42 families through the Food Closet. We also donated to the Women’s Center again for their Christmas dinner.
And the Toy Drive? Huge success! We collected over 700 toys! As I dropped off toys to the Beaverton School District (BSD), Family Justice Center, and the Department of Heath Services, I was met with overjoyed coordinators who were extremely excited and overwhelmed with your generosity.
Again, thank you so much for your generosity! There are hundreds of children in our community that will have gifts to unwrap and families that will enjoy Christmas dinner who may not have been able to without your support.—Michelle Dieter, Food Closet Coordinator
