Holy Trinity's mission statement is Know - Grow - Go: to come to know God personally, to grow in our relationship with Him, and to go forth as His instruments in the world. Grow Group is intended to help us with the second part. More than just adult faith education, Grow Group is a chance to come together with other parishioners, make new friendships, learn about our Catholic faith, pray together, and share faith together.
I’m very happy to announce the return of Grow Group after a long hiatus! For the most part, the logistics will be the same as before: we'll meet via Zoom on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00pm. It’s possible that as we get into Spring, we may be able to meet once or twice in person, just to provide a different way for folks to interact. I’m anticipating that this initial season will be a short one – running from the beginning of February through the week after Easter (April 3rd would be our last meeting). As the evening light returns, people want to be outside rather than in front of their screens.
As far as a focus goes, we will try to always keep things open to “current events” in the Church, or even in the world as they impinge on faith. But I was thinking that our main topic could be the Passion narrative in Mark’s gospel, as that is the passion story we will read on Palm Sunday this year. To assist us, William Barclay’s New Testament commentaries are now available for free online. Barclay was a Scottish theologian, author, radio and television broadcaster who died in 1978. His commentaries, though written in the mid-20th century, continue to be widely used and appreciated due to their accessibility, their insights into the historical context of the NT, and their good, solid, pastoral common sense. Plus, they’re short! I continue to use and enjoy them regularly, and I suspect you will enjoy them as well.
If you want to participate and did not receive an email from me already, complete the form here on this page and I'll add you to my mailing list! I send a reminder email with the Zoom link for the meeting typically a few days before we meet. Looking forward to regathering with all of you!
In the spring of 2020, Deacon Brett and our then-Pastoral Apprentice Ally Z. had invited our then-Parochial Vicar Fr. Hans Mueller to talk about his time in Rome. . . right when COVID-19 struck and forced us to cancel everything here on campus. Thanks to Zoom, they were able to still make his presentation possible!
Due to some technical difficulties, a bit of the beginning portion was not recorded, but what was recorded is about two-thirds of his whole talk. Check it out and enjoy!
