The last couple of weeks I have shared pictures, quotes and numbers with you all in an effort to convey the reason this ministry is here. Sometimes the need can seem overwhelming; maybe even creating the feeling of “why bother?”. When that starts to happen I have found that God always sends a reminder that what we do matters to every single person or family we help.
Just before Christmas, when things were exceptionally busy and the Food Closet was packed with people, a gentleman walked through the front door looking for help. He was heading to Tillamook and, not being familiar with the area, had somehow become confused on the freeway interchange. How he ended up at Holy Trinity we will never know but as one of the volunteers put it “God sent him to us!”. He was in desperate need of food and was about to run out of gas when he saw our big digital sign on Walker Road and thought he would come in. He could have ended up anywhere but he found us. God’s hand for sure!
I had the opportunity to speak with him for a few minutes. Turns out he had come to the area to find work as a welder but was unsuccessful. Having lived in his truck for awhile, he was headed back to Tillamook where he knew he could find a job if even in the restaurant industry. He also knew he could find a place in one of the shelters located there until he could afford stable housing. Not want he wants long-term but he felt there he could at least get back on his feet.
We never know what God is going to ask us to do or whom he will bring into our lives. Please pray for those who are dealing with food and housing insecurity that they might find the resources they need.
