The other day someone shared a story with me. They told me that, years ago, their family was struggling. Barely able to make rent, utilities and other necessities, there was going to be nothing for the kids at Christmas. Fortunately they were invited by a church to participate in a Giving Tree type program from which they received not only the physical gifts, but more importantly, the gift of hope.
Simply showing someone that they matter, that someone cares about them does make a difference. Over time, this family was able to gain stability and today they impact the lives of many others regularly.
Later this week, I will be getting all of the Thanksgiving and Christmas gift cards to the various organizations and individuals that we work with for these efforts. They include Rose Haven, Women’s Life Change Center, Veterans Administration, Family Promise of Beaverton, the Beaverton School District, and families who come to our own Food Closet.
While not the same as providing a box of food with a turkey, or a bag filled with gifts that were thoughtfully purchased for them, I believe the end result will be the same; having a positive impact on someone’s life.
As always, feel free to
contact me with any questions you might have. And, as always, thanks to all of you who have already donated. We can only do what we do because you do what you do.
