Hello, everyone. Last weekend I preached about the power of God to undermine and to place in perspective our fears and anxieties. These are tumultuous times in which we’re living, and who of us isn’t at least a little bit anxious, but in the end God is still God. We can’t control what we can’t control, and so perhaps the most prudent thing to do is to attend as best we can to whatever and whoever it is that God puts in our path today, trusting in His love and care for us and for those we love.
Some of you have asked if there are any books about learning to trust God that I have found helpful. Yes! Here are three that come to mind right away:
Searching for and Maintaining Peace, by Fr. Jacques Philippe
Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence, by Fr. Jean Baptiste Saint-Jure
Abandonment to Divine Providence, by Jean Pierre de Caussade
By the way, why are so many books about Divine Providence written by Frenchmen?
Speaking of attending to whatever and whoever it is that God puts in our path each day, I want to offer a word of thanks and admiration for our Knights of Columbus here in the parish, to our Food Closet volunteers, and to our daily Mass pew sanitizers. All have stepped up generously and selflessly during these past several months and helped us to continue our work as a parish. May the Lord bless them and reward them for their service!
