HAPPY FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY! There is something about the start of a new year that inspires us to a new perfection. Why is that? Let me suggest one possibility.
As humans, we are created in God’s image
(remember Genesis and the story of creation?!?) and there is a part of our nature that aspires to be what we have been created to be. The start of a new year reinvigorates what we have been given by the grace of God. At our best, we heed that inspiration, which is a good thing when we remind ourselves that this is not something that we can successfully do without God’s help. It is always by making our resolutions for the new year in light of figuring out God’s will for us as we make our choices.
With this in mind, what are you resolving to do differently this year? Whatever it is, remember our praying with scripture? How about using those conversations with Jesus to seek what His will is for us as we begin this new year. This Sunday is the
Feast of the Epiphany when the Wise Men, following a star, found God made flesh. In that spirit, let’s begin 2019 continuing to seek what Jesus is asking of us.
We are created to be an important part of God’s plan of salvation for the world, something that only we have been created to be and do. May God bless us with an epiphany in our own life that leads us ever closer to that revelation and reality.
