Getting back to basics. The holidays are over, and we are back in
Ordinary Time. I am beginning to revel in the ordinariness of things, hunkering down into the cozy familiarity of a holy routine! The goodies are gone, the sparkly things are all put away and now we can simply rest with the comfortable companionship of Jesus. He still just wants to be with us.
I warn you, “ordinary” with God, is not boring! Remember Brett, encouraging us to ask God to surprise us? One of the most delightful ways to do this is with scripture. Remember that God knows everything, He knows what we will hear in what we read. The church has selected things that they want us to hear.
Those readings are meant to wash over us like water on a rock, polishing our rough edges, making what was dull, more luminous. It’s not just the reading, but also the praying, allowing the familiarity of a regular meeting with God to form us as well.
Let’s begin to know the Gospel of Luke. This week, St. Luke says,
“I too have decided to write it down in an orderly sequence, so that you may realize the certainty of the teachings you have received.” Let’s see Jesus through the eyes of St. Luke and be surprised and shaped by Who we get to know! +
