“L” is for...LECTIO! (bet you thought I was going to say Lent, and it’s for that too!) Since the parish is doing holy reading this Lent, I use the “L” word from Latin – Lectio, because that is what lectio means. And remember
Fr. Dave’s 3 Questions? That is how you do it!
So, are you enjoying the
Magnificat Lenten readings? I know I am, and I am going to let you in on a secret. We are reading with the Church when we do this because it uses the Gospel readings from the Mass. And I’ll let you in on another secret, that if we went to daily Mass and Sunday Mass, or at least read the readings from that, in
3 years we would have heard most all of the Bible by simply being there!
What is loveliest about reading it ourselves is the opportunity to have that divine conversation with Jesus as we read and pray with them ourselves. That is what “
lectio divina” is, a conversation (
conversatio) with the author, the Word
Himself. In this Lent, as we
pray, fast, and give alms, let’s be inspired to use our prayer time to include holy reading. As Fr. Dave suggested, move from the booklet to an actual Bible. It is holy and sacramental to hold this beautiful book
ourselves.
This Lent, what am I grateful for, sorry about and asking? Keep reading and see what Jesus shows you.+
