“Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
It’s the start of the Third Week of Lent and I am asking myself, ‘How have I done so far?’ This post began with the words of the Jesus Prayer. Throughout the centuries, people have prayed this to become closer to Jesus, to pray ceaselessly and to convert their lives. When we pray the Jesus Prayer, our hearts are open both to humanity’s misery in our sinfulness and Christ's abundant mercy to heal it (CCC 2667). It has been called a “prayer of the heart" quite fittingly as it connects our sorrowful hearts to the merciful healing heart of Christ.
On this Third Sunday, in the Gospel of Luke (Lk 13:1-9), Jesus tells us 3 times to repent! We are now three weeks in and it’s time to listen to Him. Didn’t we begin Lent hoping for a change of heart? It’s not time to give up, there’s still time! May the God who began this good work in us as we started Lent help us to bring to completion the work that we began.
Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on us and convert our hearts this Lent.+
