You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone… Isn’t that true of all life? It has sort of been one of those weeks. Risking dating myself and some of my co-workers, this week came the announcement of the death of Doris Day and Tim Conway. Not to “out” anyone, but there was a group who
knew AND a few in the office who didn’t!
We found out that Fr. Hans didn’t know Doris Day, Tim Conway, or George Burns (Fr. Hans is playing God in the school’s spring musical so we were shocked he didn’t know the actor from
“O God”…do you?). What came from that were some wonderful conversations and memories, some educating of our co-workers, and ultimately the appreciation and savoring of something good.
The benefit of shared experience and knowledge is what it allows a group to communicate, understand, enjoy and appreciate
together! As the world changes, collective memory is altered, frankly, permanently.
For what it’s worth, take time this week to think about what’s important in your life. Share it with your family and friends. Take the time always to consider the people that world has lost and their contributions.
