“Vitae Spiritualis Ianua” is Latin for “the doorway to the spiritual life”. I am quoting the Latin from Bishop Barron and the Catechism, and it refers to and means Baptism. Baptism is the one thing everyone you see at Mass has in common. It is the first thing that connects us to the family of God, and it is the one thing that makes us related to each other. Even bigger, our Baptism leads us to all of the other big things in our life, namely the Sacraments that we receive and participate in throughout our lives.
What do these sacraments give us?
GRACE! Fr. Dave has given the definition as the unmerited gift which God gives us freely, most directly through the Sacraments. Why do we need God’s grace? God’s grace is everything in our lives. It is what makes us holy and what helps us to be the best versions of ourselves, to quote Matthew Kelly! More than that, His grace will some day be what allows us to live in heaven.
Catholics have 7 sacraments, but three that make us Catholic: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Is there anyone you know who needs to complete their Sacraments; maybe yourself? There is a way for adults to do that called
RCIA. Beginning on Sept. 17
th, we have a new group preparing to make their sacraments; some to complete what they started, others for the very first time. Interested in joining them? Email or give me a call in the parish office. I would be delighted with the RCIA Team to prepare you for sacramental grace!
For everyone else,
