I am writing this on
Election Day and I am wearied by what we have had to live through leading up to this election. It has given new meaning to the word
“vitriol”(noun: cruel and bitter criticism).
Thankfully we are done with the lead up, but the truth is that once done with results tallied, there will be people who will be happy with the results of tonight’s election, and those who will not. As you read this, you know where you fall! Good or bad, let’s shake it off.
Remember that we have been praying with the
Gospel of St. Mark, and after all of the snark and venom, I am aching for a conversation with Jesus. I am finishing
Mark's Gospel and am at
Chapter 14, which begins with
The Conspiracy to Kill Jesus.
I find the reading of Jesus’ passion a consummate reminder of how deep Jesus’ love for us is, that he chose to die for our sake. On display in this narrative is every possible form of disfunction and sin. When I pray this, Fr. Dave’s 3 questions change a bit. They always begin with simply
“I am sorry...”.
We are living through a time in our country that is plagued with division. As Jesus’ followers, we remember what he did for us on the cross, and trust in Him! No matter who is elected, we know how the story ends and who the true victor is.
Let's talk to Jesus. Read the Gospel. Tell Him what we’re sorry about and grateful for. And let’s ask Jesus to bless and help our country! +
