Mindless drivel:DEFINITION: That which I waste my time with when I could be doing something useful. You know, something worthy of my time. The countless ways I use to
“relax, vegetate, ignore something I don’t want to do or think about”.
A nun I know and respect, an old high school teacher, admitted her tendency to waste time with computer solitaire. And as I think about it, she did admit it but was first reminded by a fellow sister! Now made worse by hand held devices, the opportunity for drivel expands exponentially.
Consider drivel’s synonyms:
blather, gibberish, nonsense, tripe, bunk, hooey, rot, rubbish. OUCH! My grandson, trying to get my attention as I dithered with my phone, said,
“Grandma, I’m looking at you!”, which meant, look at me, and pay attention! I looked into that beautiful, earnest face. Caught by this sweet boy in my reverie of
“twaddle”, I put the phone down as it should have been in the first place.
Still stinging from that memory, now I imagine my sweet Lord looking, sad that I am wasting my time with nonsense when I could be talking to Him as well. May God help me remove the inconsequential from my life, replacing it with what truly satisfies.
