Thinking about Mary, the mother of our God. Mary, the greatest of our Saints, because she said ‘yes’ to God’s plan and gave birth to our savior.
“A sign that man did not ask for because he never dreamt that such a thing would be possible.” So said St. Irenaeus, and he was speaking about Jesus, the Word of God, becoming a human being like you and me. And aren’t all of our sacred mysteries like that, and the collective “we” of humanity could never fathom or dream that such things could be possible?
Consider the four things we believe about Mary: her
Divine Motherhood, Perpetual Virginity, Immaculate Conception, and her
Assumption, Body and Soul, into heaven. We as human beings cannot dream on our own that such things could be possible. Judging with human standards, perhaps not, but
“with God, all things are possible” for so said Jesus
(MT 19:26), and all of it hinging on Mary’s ‘yes’ to God through a message from an angel. St. Irenaeus was right, who would ever have thought?
Consider praying a rosary, and substitute
the four dogmas (the things listed above) for the mysteries of the day. As you pray, consider the beautiful and sacred truths we believe about Mary. On the fifth decade, offer it to thank God for all that Mary’s ‘yes’ has done for us.
“Hail Holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. . . Mary, we love you.” +
