I was listening to Catholic radio and joined just as the man speaking told a story. As a child, his parents sent him to Christian
(not Catholic) Bible Camp. His first day home, he announced to his family that he had accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior!
Isn’t that just like Jesus—TO USE ANY OPPORTUNITY to get our attention!
Can we imagine our God just waiting for a moment to enter into our lives? If we can’t, WE SHOULD! God loves us so much that He will look for ANY opening to connect. I can tell you more stories than I can count of RCIA’ers and how God inspired them to deepen their faith and become Catholic. These are ordinary people who have had conversion experiences. In RCIA lingo, converts and reverts.
You know what a convert is, and a revert is a baptized Catholic who comes back. Baptism works, leaving a permanent character on the soul. And even without that, God works. We might forget God, but God doesn’t forget US. Jesus will use ANYTHING to get our attention, even the ordinary, less than perfect circumstances of our lives.
Brett spoke about that in his homily, reminding us that even if WE can’t see evidence of it in our family members, God is working, perhaps through you and me. The path to God is rarely straight, often not perfect, but distinctly our own. One should never lose hope. BTW, the man in the story that I started with? He is now a priest!
Let Jesus in your life and anything is possible! May God bless us and the people that we love! Have a great weekend everybody! +
