Hello everyone! As you’ve no doubt noticed, Fr. Dave is back. When I talked to him earlier this week, he sounded REALLY relaxed — some of you may need to poke him if he falls asleep during Mass. Or, you could just let him sleep and try your hand at these three riddles. See what you can do!
Hello, everyone! Grow Group returns this week! Yaaaayyyy! (booo… — quiet, Fr. Dave!) Ally and I are working on an exciting syllabus for the year. Questions around God’s existence, the nature of God’s Providence, the problem of Evil, a psychological look at the Book of Genesis, a unit on Catholic Social Teaching: these are just some of the topics we’re hoping to cover.
Hello, everyone. Perhaps you’ve heard of the Darwin Awards? If not, “the Darwin Awards are a tongue-in-cheek honor, originating in Usenet newsgroup discussions around 1985. They recognize individuals who have supposedly contributed to human evolution by selecting themselves out of the gene pool via death or sterilization by their own actions” (thanks, Wikipedia!). Anyway, our old friend Don Ferris sent over the following candidates recently; enjoy!
I am leaving this Monday the 10th after morning Mass for my annual vacation and will be returning on the 29th. Yayyyyyyyyy! With Fr. Hans here now, it is easier to be away, knowing that the parish is not without good pastoral care. Please make him work HARD in my absence! And, with Brett. . . . I need your help to keep him and Fr. Hans from scheming to get me transferred away from here!
Hello, everyone. A couple of weeks ago, both Fr. Dave and I spoke about the latest clergy sexual abuse revelations. Since then, many of you have come with your questions, observations and concerns. Although things have quieted down a bit for now, at least in the main stream press, I’m sure new stories will continue to emerge as the bishops; the Vatican; concerned priests and laity; and, yes, law enforcement continue to grapple with this awful problem.
The first week of school for the Beaverton School District got off to a quick (maybe slow if you consider the returned early morning school bus infused traffic) start. Within two days of opening I had multiple schools contacting me wanting to know if they would still be able to receive support via the back pack program.
Hello, everyone! School is back in session this week (stop celebrating, parents!), but of course the REALLY big news is that, yes, once more, it’s the beginning of the COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON (no comments, Ally!).
It’s official. As of Tuesday, summer is over. Kids are back in school (some for a week already) and, as a result, the morning commute will be noticeably worse. For the Outreach Ministry, this means we will soon be restarting the weekend food Backpack Program. Late last school year, I met with several new schools to ask how we might be able to help ensure their kids receive the food they and their families need. I anticipate we will add one or two of them to our list of supported schools from last year.
