Hello, everyone. The following is one of my favorite quotes from Fr. Jacques Philippe, one of the best international Catholic authors and spiritual directors going today.
“Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” It’s the start of the Third Week of Lent and I am asking myself, ‘How have I done so far?’
Our Week 3 theme for Lent: Raising the Bar on Being Church. You have heard and read my reminders often of the three words we use to describe our purpose here at Holy Trinity: KNOW, GROW, GO. If we as a parish and we as the Catholic Church in our country and beyond are going to be effective in being the means through which God announces Good News, we have some major conversion and transformation necessary.
“L” is for...LECTIO! (bet you thought I was going to say Lent, and it’s for that too!) Since the parish is doing holy reading this Lent, I use the “L” word from Latin – Lectio, because that is what lectio means. And remember Fr. Dave’s 3 Questions? That is how you do it!
Hello, everyone! Two brief but really fine reflective pieces for you regarding the Providence of God. As we enter more deeply into this Lenten season, may our reliance on God deepen as well. . .
Our theme for week 2 of Lent: Radiation Therapy for Sin. We were laughing with staff about preaching this weekend about the “s” word and the “f” word. Intrigued?
What are you doing for Lent? First, let’s remember Ash Wednesday, a PUBLIC fast. “Return to me with your whole heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning…proclaim a fast, call an assembly”.
Lent 2019 here we go! This weekend’s topic is: Decluttering our lives in a chaotic world. There is a lot of interest in simplifying our lives and there are new gurus telling us how to do that. The kind of decluttering I will be talking about is different.
The Sunday Before Fat Tuesday Musings: I have it on great authority that important occasions are generally followed by food and celebration, but in the case of Lent, it’s the exact opposite. Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you FAST, ABSTAIN, AND GIVE ALMS!
Hello everyone. In line with our readings today, and their admonitions about attending to the words that come out of our mouths, I found these little gems from the Desert Christians, those mighty men (and women!) who went off into the Egyptian deserts in the 4th century to undertake spiritual battle. Enjoy!
Here comes Lent 2019. Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday, March 6th, and Masses will be at 8:15am, 2:15pm, and 7:00pm. Our Lent Homily Series begins at these Masses and will continue through Palm Sunday on April 14th. Our overall theme is: 7 Ways to Raise the Bar.
