Our celebration of the Sacred Paschal Triduum began on Holy Thursday with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, a liturgy that celebrates the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood. It also commemorates the beginning of the events that would lead to Jesus’ Passion and death on the Cross.
Father Dave gave a very moving homily about the priesthood and how privileged and humbled he is to be our pastor. The Washing of the Feet, taken from John’s Gospel, reminds us that the Eucharist leads to service.
The Mass concluded with the ancient and moving rite of the Transfer of the Eucharist to the Altar of Repose, as we sang the traditional Holy Thursday hymn, Pange Lingua. Many parishioners stayed the night to pray in the presence of our Eucharistic Lord. The splendor of our Catholic liturgy was celebrated with joy, solemnity, and great devotion.
